Roman Gear 2006

I am working towards an auxiliary soldier impression; my 07 kit for this June's Roman Days will be much improved.

  • A blue wool tunica
  • Red linen scarf
  • Caliga (Military sandals)
  • Brown wool cloak
  • Brass horse fibulae (pin)
  • Military Belt
  • Oval auxiliary shield
  • Brass helmet
  • 8mm round riveted alternating with flat punched link maille.
  • Roman sword
  • Spears

Roman Pouch 2007

A drawstring leather pouch found in Bargercompascuum (Netherlands) in the 1950s. Martin Moser on the Roman Army Talk Forum posted pictures and the reference for this pouch and I made a copy for myself.

Literature: Schlabow, K. Der römische Münzschatz von Bargercompascuum (Drenthe). II. Der Geldbeutel. Palaeohistoria 5, 1956: 81-87.

Auxiliary Shield 2007

Chuck Russel cut out the shield for me, covered it in linen, painted the cover red, and originally tacked the raw hide edge with nails. I added the leather to cover the the raw edge of the hand hole and leather wrapped the handle. I then drilled holes and stitched down the raw hide edge the proper way. I then painted the front of the shield.
